Think Outside The Accounting Firm, Says Softchoice's Senior Financial Operations Manager
Vince Iozzo, Softchoice‘s Senior Financial Operations Manager, says he was able to experience many different facets of business involving accounting by thinking outside the accounting firm and starting his career with an IT solutions and services company.
Since he started with Softchoice in 1999, after graduating from Ryerson University with a bachelor of commerce, he’s helped the company go public and acquire other organizations, and he says he probably wouldn’t have been able to get all that experience at a firm that focuses solely on accounting. Through Softchoice, he’s also been able to specialize in one industry while still making use of his accounting skills and experience.
He became a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) in 2006 and credits that designation with helping him rise within the company. He says he’s been so successful by keeping things as simple as possible and not taking on more than he can handle.
Iozzo’s advice for students and recent grads who want to start their careers in accounting is to know what you want and how you can it by figuring out what you’re good at, what you’re bad at, and how much work you can take on at once.

Cathy Giallo is Softchoice‘s Accounts Receivables and Treasury Supervisor where she manages about a dozen people on a daily basis.
Giallo says students and recent grads with unrelated educational backgrounds who want to work in accounting will be hired by many organizations, including Softchoice, as long as they’re willing to start from the bottom and work their way up by getting experience and maybe even pursuing additional education or certification in finance and accounting.
Softchoice is supporting Giallo’s career advancement by reimbursing her for the continuing education courses she’s taking at Ryerson University. That’s why she says the two best things about working at Softchoice are the people and the support. She says work-life balance and personal growth are strongly encouraged and supported.
